You must meet the Basic Requirements and the Minimum Qualifications to qualify for Supervisory Economist, as described below. Basic Requirements: Economist, GS-0110: A) Degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting or calculus. OR B) A combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, applicants must also meet the Minimum Qualifications to be considered. Minimum Qualifications: Economist, GS-0110: Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience should include a thorough range of complex economic professional work. GS-14: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Applicants will need to meet at least one of the specialized experience examples. Qualifying specialized experience includes: Planned and directed projects or other tasks to accomplish organizational goals; Provided technical expertise, advice, and consultation to meet organizational goals; Reviewed and validated data to ensure accuracy, methodological soundness, and consistency with program goals. Four positions will be filled using this vacancy announcement: A Supervisory Economist serving as the Housing Section Chief in the Branch of Consumer Prices (BCP) for the Division of Consumer Prices and Price Indexes (DCPPI). A Supervisory Economist serving as the Chief of the Branch of Production and Control (BCP) for the Division of Consumer Expenditure Surveys (DCES). A Supervisory Economist serving as the Section Chief of Information and Analysis (I&A) for the Division of International Prices (DIP). A Supervisory Economist serving as the Section Chief of Index Methods for the Division of Industrial Prices and Price Indexes (DIPPI). Duties for these positions include, but are not limited to the following: Manages assigned resources and provides leadership to achieve organizational goals and to produce the program's outputs within budget constraints, schedule deadlines, and quality requirements. Has responsibility for recruiting, hiring, evaluating and overall staff development within the section or branch. Assists the Branch Chief in formulating Branch and Program policies to assure that each month's price collection, price review and index analysis are timely, accurate and relevant and completed under the tight time constraints of the program's production schedule and the requirements to safeguard confidential and pre-release data. Directs the analysis of change in prices and/or expenditure estimates and the impact of the estimates on the current economy. Establishes the workflow and data review procedures necessary to certify and validate the accuracy of the micro data and estimates derived from those data. Managers the development, maintenance, and economic analysis of production activities for the program, including specifying the data processing requirements necessary for data validation, editing, imputation and estimation. Directs the preparation of the monthly or annual release and other program outputs. Assesses the need for and directs the development of new information products. Plans and directs research and methodological studies to develop, examine and evaluate methods to improve program estimates and reduce survey error. Extracts, analyzes, validates, and interprets large, complex datasets. Communicates complex economic and methodological concepts to varied audiences, including senior management, the public, and interagency groups. Contributes to the development and testing of systems requirements and other computer system artifacts for the program's IT systems. Participates on steering committees for the purpose of coordinating and managing approved projects within the matrix organization to meet the program's organizational goals.
