To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify at the GS-6 level if you fulfill the following qualifications: -SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: receiving telephone calls and visitors, determining the nature of the inquiry to direct them appropriately; operating various office automation software and equipment to perform administrative support tasks; taking and delivering accurate messages for staff members; and maintaining basic office filing systems. -AND- -TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Receives telephone calls and visitors from VA employees, union representatives, etc., and determines nature of call or business of visitors. Manages the Chief Nurse e-mail inbox and maintains log of open tasks. Provides clerical assistance to tasked parties to assemble appropriate responses to action items and suspense's. Maintains calendar of events, reminding the chief of appointments, furnishing briefs of subject matter and/or purpose of meeting. Makes all necessary arrangements for travel, arranging schedule of visits, making transportation and hotel reservations, notifying organizations and officials to be visited, keeping in touch with supervisor enroute, and submitting travel vouchers and reports. Gathers information supporting the Chief Nurse participation and/or involvement in conferences, formal and informal meetings, and presentations. Creates, processes and/or tracks personnel actions as assigned. Serves as a timekeeper for the Chief Nurse administrative units and a back-up timekeeper for other Chief Nurses. Advises all nursing employees: i.e., nursing assistants, health techs, registered nurses, and administrative staff on personnel regulations and policies such as pay, leave. Directs staff to EEO or HR Office in regards to hiring, grievances, and performance evaluations. Supports Chief Nurse in budget reviews by gathering documents from previous fiscal year and drafts Chief Nurse response to projected budgets; attends budget meetings with Chief Nurse taking notes and incorporating any changes into the draft document. Maintains files on ACLS and BLS certification and notifies the Chief Nurse when staff certifications have expired; also prepares the memorandums notifying employees their certification has expired. Obtains and monitors the use of supplies, equipment, or services for the office. Uses office automation systems and various Microsoft software packages/programs to accomplish work. As required, may utilize various VA-specific programs such as but not limited to: Veteran Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA), Integrated Funds Distribution Control Point Activity Accounting and Procurement (IFCAP), WebHR, etc., in the performance of assigned duties.
