To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/08/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement-(SF-50 submitted) : Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of security or law enforcement objectives and programs; overseeing, leading, and balancing the workload of staff; carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration; monitoring and responding to physical alarm systems and security cameras; dispatching officers; monitoring computers for video surveillance; and maintaining reports and logs. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communications Computer Skills Leadership Manages and Organizes Information Operations Support Security Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required. Working Conditions: The employee will work within the medical facility's operating functions and must use all appropriate safety tools, clothing, etc . to protect themself, other staff, visitors, and patients. Other assignments can be in remote areas such as sub-basements, machinery rooms, rooftops, roads, and walkways. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Ensures that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. Articulates and communicates to the team the assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, provides advice on work. methods, practices and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Responsible for identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees; adjusts the workload in accordance with established priorities and skill levels to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensures that each employee is kept busy. Trains or arranges for the training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks. Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. Maintains program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor; maintains current knowledge to answer questions from team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Represents the team in dealings with the supervisor or manager for obtaining resources and securing needed information or decisions from the supervisor on issues that arise. Leads the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provides leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g., in work methods, processes and procedures). Performs alarm and access monitoring, tracing access patterns, programming, assigning or removing user permissions, updating databases, remotely opening and securing doors during routine and emergency operations and generating a variety of reports as needed. Assesses on-scene behavior and determines when it is appropriate to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate. Implements policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material. Operates an established vehicle registration and visitor management program and parking registration and/or photo identification equipment. Issues and retrieves government issued keys and/or identification cards. Reviews requests for and issues passes and identification documents. Maintains accurate key inventory and accountability database. Maintains accountability of Police Officer badges issued and all associated logs. Performs administrative (non-criminal) investigations of lost keys, passes, and PIV cards for rapid assessment and documentation of any compromised access to VA property and termination of off access permissions. The position monitors and receives routine and emergency calls from a variety of sources that need police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determines the nature and location of the emergency; prioritizes events and commits police resources appropriately. Coordinates with various federal, state and local law enforcement officials for coordination of emergency situations. Gathers and relays applicable information to law enforcement personnel in the field. - Coordinates warrant confirmations and transports with outside agencies. Coordinates health and welfare checks with outside law enforcement agencies. Completes vehicle registration tasks and issues decals and permits as authorized by policy. Establishes proper tracking of parking/traffic violators and reports habitual offenders to the supervisor for additional action. Establishes and maintains physical files of parking/traffic violators. Gathers information and completes reports when local incidents rise to the level requiring notification to the VA Integrated Operations Center. Performs other duties as needed. Work Schedule: 1800pm-0600am, or 0600-1800.
