PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds. Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling. Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self). The work may necessitate some physical characteristics that will be required when responding to an emergency, such as running a short distance, prolonged standing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads and supervises a team of technical writers and editors producing policy documents, scientific and technical articles, regulations, manuals, clinical guidelines, brochures, pamphlets, and award submissions. Plans, assigns, and prioritizes work and provides coaching and performance feedback. Serves as the senior technical editor for complex and high visibility products, ensuring clarity, accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with agency policy, style standards, and audience needs. Works with internal and external authors and program staff throughout planning, drafting, and revision. Verifies information with subject matter experts and edits and restructures materials for organization, tone, readability, and plain language, coordinating with design and graphics staff as needed. Oversees the work of authors, freelance editors, proofreaders, translators, and indexers. Manages all stages of review and proofing, maintains version control, and monitors schedules to ensure timely, high-quality products. Coordinates editorial projects with publications, communications, program, research, web, and production staff. Helps develop project plans and schedules, balance competing priorities, and recommend approaches for print and digital products. Communicates clear workflows, standards, roles, and deadlines to staff and stakeholders. Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts using sound judgment and tact and elevates significant risks to management with recommended solutions. Conducts final editorial reviews before release and recommends approval or further revision. Develops and maintains editorial standards, templates, and processes, and mentors staff and authors to improve the quality and effectiveness of written products.
