Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience advocating for clients to ensure they receive entitled benefits and services; Explain complex topics in a clear, concise, and accessible manner verbal and written communication skills. Lead productive and collaborative meetings; Provide information, referral and resources to service members, families and Units on adoption, elder services, scholarships and other family matters. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will serve as a Family Resource Specialist and be responsible for providing family support services as set forth in Commandant Instructions (COMDTINST) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Serve as non-clinical case manager on issues pertaining to special needs conditions and maintain case files IAW policy. Provide education training to personnel and Units on the Special Needs Program. Assist service members with enrollment in and disenrollment from the special needs program. Chair the Special Needs Resource Team for USCG Child Development Centers in the AOR IAW policy.
